About the EEA AND NORWAY GRANTS
Since 1994, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein have been jointly supporting the restoration
and conservation of the cultural heritage in Slovakia through the funds of the European
Economic Area and the Norwegian Fund. Almost 4.5 million Euro was allocated to 9
projects to assist cultural monuments in the last call.
The town of Povazská Bystrica has succeeded in the call with its project entitled
“Restoration of the Povazsky Castle – Cultural and National Heritage (CNH)” and the
project has been granted 457,184 Euro for the reconstruction of the Povazsky Castle.
The reconstruction was focused at remediating the rock cliff, reconstructing a part
of the castle, establishing an information system, making an archaeological survey
and conducting promotional activities. The project manager is the Government Office
of the Slovak Republic, and the project is also funded by the National Budget of
the Slovak Republic and by Povazska Bystrica with the amount of 80,680 Euro. The
Project is being implemented within the programme area “Conversation and revitalisation
of cultural and natural heritage and promotion of diversity in culture and arts within
European cultural heritage” under the adaptation of “Castles, forts and municipal
mansions” to make the cultural heritage available to the public.
The final conference entitled “The Restoration of the Povazsky Castle – theory and
practice II” will be held on the occasion of project finishing (the works are being
in the final stage now) to present the works to rescue the most endangered parts
of the castle and to offer tourists a new view and the opportunity to spend your
time actively and safely.
